Udalsarea 2030 works with other similar networks driving local sustainable networks. In Spain, special mention should be made of the track record with Xarxa de Ciutats i Pobles cap a la Sostenibilitat de Catalunya and the Navarra Network of Local Authorities for Sustainability. Udalsarea 2030 has held work meetings, shared experiences and been involved in joint projects with those networks.
As regards the international arena, Udalsarea 2030 has been a member of Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI). The Basque Country hosted the 8th Conference of Sustainable Towns and Cities in 2016, a meeting that is held every four years. The outcome was the adoption of the Basque Declaration as the framework of principles to transform societies to resilient, sustainable and productive cities and towns. Along with the City of Aalborg and ICLEI, the Basque Government has since driven the Sustainable Cities Campaign, which includes a database of transformative actions carried out in different European locations.
In this framework, the campaign, with the support of the European Committee of the Regions, annually awards the European prize for sustainable transformative action. The prize goes to the city, region or organisation of civil society that implements the 15 guidelines in the Basque Declaration to foster the social, cultural, economic and technological transformation of its community. The actions implemented are regional or local contributions to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement.
Udalsarea 2030 was a partner of the European Conference on Sustainable Cities and Towns Aalborg 2024, which took place in the Danish city from 1 to 3 October.
